Interrogative Pronoun

Interrogative Pronoun: are question words that are used in place of a noun. Such as who, which, whom, What.The interrogative pronouns are used for making querries or asking questions.

Who and whom usually refer to people and which too can refer to people occasionally. Which and what usually refer to things and animals. Who acts as the subject of a verb, while whom acts as the object of a verb or preposition. e.g.

(a) Who wants to see the dentist first?

    (Who is the subject of the sentence.)

(b) Who wrote the Mahabharata?

    (Who is the subject of the sentence.)

(c) Whom do you think I should send there?

    (Whom is the object of the verb send.)

(d) To whom do you wish to speak?

    (Whom is the object of the preposition to.)

(e) Who will meet the students at the college around? (Who is the subject of the compound verb

     will meet.)

(f) To whom did you give the purse?

   (Whom is the object of the preposition to.)

(g) What did he say?

    (What is the direct object of the verb say.)
